I serve on the board for the Texas Young Professionals San Antonio Chapter. It’s a great organziation that I’m really proud to be a part of. I’ve made some excellent friends that inspire and motivate me both personally and professionally. There are seven chapters across Texas. We hold monthly networking events and raise money for mostly local charities. The group is open to professionals in their 20’s to mid 40’s that want to get out and be a part of something with the purpose to serve and build our community. We’re always looking to expand our membership here in San Antonio and throughout Texas. Here are four reasons you should get involved:
1. Benefit Awesome Charities. Every month we select an extremely worthy charity and raise funds for them through donations from our members in the form of a raffle. Be The Match, Girls on the Run, First Book San Antonio, and the San Antonio Humane Society are just a few of the organizations we have raised money for recently. Where do the raffle prizes come from? Generous donations from our members and other organziations that support what we are doing. Where do the charities come from? Our board carefully researches and selects worthy causes. If you would like for your organizations to be considered, contact me and I will present it to the board.
2. Meet People Outside of “Your World”.
When I first moved to San Antonio, I met a few dentists, who introduced me to some dentists, who knew some dentists, etc. All I knew were dentists! I needed a way to meet people that didn’t do dentistry to break it up a little bit and to expand my horizons. Texas Young Professionals San Antonio Chapter has provided a great way for me to do that. In dentistry, we have our dental meetings and work together with other dentists, so it takes a little extra effort to get out there and make connections with people that don’t do what you do. I have to say, the effort is totally worth it.
3. Grow Your Business
Most young professionals need to meet people and get their name out there. I’m racking my brain for an industry where getting out there and meeting people who can serve as leads, clients, mentors or advisers is not important. If you think of one, let me know.
4. Make Friends.
San Antonio is a growing city, and a lot of that growth can be attributed to people moving here for job opportunities. Once you’re out of college or grad school, it’s much more challenging to make friends. If you’re a career minded young professional, you probably want to meet and make friends with other people with the same frame of mind. Where do you find these people after 5 PM on a weekday? Texas Young Professionals can provide that environment for you.
So there’s four great reasons to get involved with Texas Young Professionals San Antonio Chapter. I could probably write ten more. If any or all of the above points interest or apply to you, consider joining our group and coming to our next meeting. If you have a business that you’d like to promote to our members, our monthly events have sponsorship opportunities where we can highlight what you do. Lastly, please help me spread the word in San Antonio so more people know what we’re all about by sharing this post. I look forward to meeting you at our next event!
